Searching Martin County Cases by Name
Minnesota Court Records Online, or MCRO, is the first remote option for an eligible Martin County name search. Accept the terms first. Then choose Case Search and the Name mode. A person search takes last name, first name, and an optional middle name, and a business search works too. If the case belongs in the local district court, pick Martin County under the county selector. Apply the category, filed-date, and status filters with care.
Spell the name precisely before widening the net. MCRO supports exact matches, a trailing wildcard after at least two characters, and a Sounds Like option. Do not combine wildcard and Sounds Like. A broad result does not prove every hit is the same person, so compare case type, county, filed date, and case number before opening the detail view. Some pending criminal, traffic, and petty matters also stay outside name-search results.
- Open MCRO, accept the terms, and select Case Search.
- Choose Name and enter the smallest reliable set of fields, beginning with last and first name for a person.
- Select Martin County from the court-location control and add a case category or date-filed range when it helps.
- Review the returned case rows, then open the case number that matches the known public details.
- Use View Case Details for the ROA and contact Court Administration if the required record is not remotely available.
MCRO Martin County Case Filter
The MCRO Court Location control defaults to all statewide court locations. Select Specific County Court Locations is also offered. Choose Search by County and pick Martin from the M group. The screen then shows the county you picked. This step matters. Minnesota's district court system is statewide. An unfiltered name search can pull cases from a different county. Filtering to Martin flags the local venue, though MCRO is never a separate county database.
Categories run across Civil, Criminal, Family, and Probate or Mental Health. Subtypes show up in results or case details rather than as one fixed list in the public controls. Date of birth and date-filed fields accept exact dates or ranges. Enter sensitive personal data only when necessary and lawful. Never repeat those details in notes or public research.
| MCRO field or control | Type | Required | Martin County search use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Text | Yes for person name search | Start with the known spelling; trailing wildcard and Sounds Like are documented alternatives. |
| First Name | Text | Yes for person name search | Pair with last name before using broader filters. |
| Middle Name | Text | No | Add only when it helps distinguish similar results. |
| Date of Birth | Exact date or date range | No | Use only when necessary and legally appropriate; do not publish entered data. |
| Date Filed | Exact date or date range | No | Useful for narrowing a common Martin County name. |
| Case Category | Category control | No | Civil, Criminal, Family, or Probate or Mental Health. |
| Case Status | Dropdown | No | Use the live control; the documented inventory does not supply a complete option list. |
| Court Location | County selector | No | Select Martin County to keep a local case search focused. |
Searching Martin County Cases by Case Number
A full case number is the strongest key for a case search. It points to one court file. Minnesota numbers usually carry a two-digit county code, case-type letters, a two-digit year, and a sequence. Martin County's public calendar uses the county prefix 46. A criminal format sample is 46-CR-26-..., and a payable traffic-style sample is 46-VB-26-.... Both are samples only and stand for no live records.
For a known court file, use MCRO Case Number mode. The public interfaces may accept optional dashes. The MPA courthouse guide also notes that dashes in a case number are optional. A citation is a different identifier, usually a longer numeric value. Switch to Citation Number mode for that route. A plate number is not the ordinary public MCRO or payment-center key. Without a case number, a carefully narrowed name search or the official local contact route beats guessing.
Martin County MCRO Search Modes
Four primary tabs sit on the MCRO landing screen: Case Search, Document Search, Hearing Search, and Judgment Search. Each answers a different question. Case Search opens a public case result and its ROA. Document Search hunts for public documents tied to a known case. Hearing Search finds eligible hearings by person or business, case, judge, or attorney. Judgment Search pulls public debtor, judgment, and satisfaction details. It skips the full event log. Inside Case Search, the documented modes are Name, Case Number, Citation Number, and Attorney. Attorney search helps when that information is known. It cannot replace a party name. The official quick reference walks through the public mode and filter controls.
Choose the record level: A hearing search can confirm an eligible setting, but the case-number result and ROA provide the underlying case history.
What a Martin County Case Search Returns
MCRO results tie a case number to a case detail view. That page breaks information into sections. The ROA lists events newest first, in reverse chronological order. One caution applies. A case can have an accessible ROA while a particular public document is still missing from the file.
| Case information | Case number, case title, type, date filed, court location, judicial officer, status, citation number, flags, and related cases when displayed. |
|---|---|
| Party information | Public party role and name, with limited attorney or location details where court rules permit access. |
| Register of Actions | Event date, event name or description, document index number, and a View Document control when a public document is available. |
| Hearings | Upcoming and previous public settings. Confirm a current setting with the notice, calendar, or local court. |
| Disposition and finance | Public disposition, financial, bond or bail, judgment, and satisfaction information where the case type permits display. |
Read each status or hearing line in full context. Filed or pending activity is not a finding of guilt or liability. A hearing alone does not establish the result, and closed is only a status, not proof of expungement or deletion.
Martin County ROA Detail View
Minnesota calls its court docket the register of Actions, or ROA. The phrase covers the judgment roll, judgment docket, register, and indexes. Minnesota Statutes § 485.07 lists them among the court administrator's records. In MCRO, click View Case Details on a result row. The ROA opens with the other public fields. Walk the event dates in order. Then open any public order or document the index offers. Do not judge a Martin County case search by one line on a screen.
Read each field for what it actually is. A hearing entry on the calendar shows a scheduled setting, not an outcome. An ROA filing event can sit next to a later disposition. The judgment detail may carry satisfaction information. When the online view leaves questions, Martin County Court Administration answers them. It also issues certified copies.
The official text of Minnesota Statutes § 485.07 sets out the register and judgment-record terms behind these case search results.
Statewide and Martin County Case Search
Martin County offers no separate public county case-search portal. The statewide MCRO service fills that gap. Its location control narrows results to Martin County. MPA Courthouse View is another statewide court-system tool, used inside a Minnesota district courthouse for a fuller eligible public view. For certified copies, case-specific questions, or records not displayed remotely, Martin County Court Administration is the local stop.
| Access route | Where used | What it provides | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| MCRO | Remote web | Eligible case summaries, ROAs, hearings, judgments, and selected documents. | First Martin County lookup by name, case number, citation, or attorney. |
| MPA Courthouse View | Minnesota district-court public terminal | More complete eligible statewide case records and documents, subject to rules. | Remote-access gap or an in-person eligible search. |
| Martin County Court Administration | In person, phone, or request route | Certified copies, copy requests, and local access guidance. | Official copy, restricted-record question, or case-specific assistance. |
Martin County MCRO and Courthouse MPA
MCRO and MPA are two access layers of the same Minnesota Judicial Branch. They are not the same thing. MCRO is the free remote service. Its terms screen states up front that electronic data is not the official court record. It is not certified either. MPA, by contrast, is the courthouse public-access view for eligible records kept off the remote display. Before driving in for an older, restricted, or case-specific record, ask Martin County Court Administration. Ask about the local public-terminal route.
Need an official copy? Court Administration can direct an eligible request in person or by phone. The statewide form's mail, pickup, email, or fax choices offer more routes. Email and fax cover plain, non-confidential copies only. To file or serve a new paper, use Minnesota eFile and eServe. An allowed paper route works too. A new filing does not appear in public case-search results until the court accepts and processes it.
The remote limits are deliberate. Rule 8 restricts certain data in remote display and separates courthouse access from remote access. Rule 4 lists nonpublic and restricted case records. Read the source text of Minnesota Rule 4. It shows the protected case categories that can shape a Martin County case search.
Access and Restricted Martin County Cases
Some Minnesota cases and documents get limited or no remote display. Protection-order and harassment records at specified stages, CHIPS matters, certain juvenile delinquency cases, public civil-commitment material, and protected personal data all sit behind that line. Family and post-adjudication paternity documents can carry tighter remote limits too. One public case may show only part of its file online. Another eligible record waits at a courthouse terminal.
Juvenile records follow their own access rules. Never work around a limit by publishing names or dates of birth. Addresses and live case details count too. The text of Juvenile Delinquency Rule 30.02 is the primary source. It sets that separate juvenile-record framework.
One more statute matters here. The Judicial Branch is exempt from the general Data Practices Act framework under Minnesota Statutes § 13.90, so Supreme Court rules govern access to judicial records instead. The statute text documents that boundary.
Martin County Case Search No-Result Checks
A blank result screen is not the end of the road. It can mean a spelling slip. A date or category filter set too tight, a pending-case name-search limit, a remote-access restriction, or simply the wrong search mode can also do it. Write down the search terms, Martin County filter, case category, date range, and search date. Then try the case number, the citation number, or the attorney route if one is available. For a calendar question, the public calendar or MCRO Hearing Search works. A calendar is never a full ROA.
Sealing and expungement deserve separate care. A closed record is not automatically expunged. A remote absence does not tell you why. Minnesota Statutes Chapter 609A supplies the grounds and petition procedure, and the court order governs the record. The Minnesota Statutes § 609A.02 source shows that order-based framework.
